Guest composer Amar Mohile’s instrumental 3G Theme is understandably functional, presenting a sinister sound that may work better as part with the movie’s visuals; as a song it doesn’t. Mithoon starts off his part with a breezy melody called Kaise Bataoon which is more KK and (debutant?) Sonal Chauhan’s show than the composer’s. Mithoon makes considerable amends from his end in the Cantabile version where the imaginative use of a cappella helps overcome the déjà vu. In Khalbali the composer infuses some slick guitaring into the filmy sufi sound, while Shilpa Rao, Arijit Singh and Tochi Raina hold their end beautifully. Tochi also makes the Punjabi version engaging with his earthy rendition. Mithoon gets the arrangement totally right once again in the final song Bulbuliya, an intriguing mix of sounds backing Adnan Sami’s booming voice. The tune has its downsides but the other factors adequately make up for it.
With two finely crafted songs, 3G is the best composer Mithoon has sounded in a long long time.
