You can listen to the songs at the end of the review.
Ab Main Kya Karoon is as upbeat as a Raghu Dixit song gets, and is delivered by the singer-composer himself. The characteristic guitar-led arrangement also features some nice other additions; the flute in the second interlude being particularly noteworthy. Dixit takes the romantic melody route with Waakeyi though, pulling off a nice dreamy (even Rahman-esque) track in the process. Nikhil D’Souza (his diction aside) and Shruti Pathak do a good job of the singing even as the flute rules the background. Pyaar Hai Kutti Cheez has Warren Mendonsa and Sid Coutto donning the composer role, and it is not hard to detect their handprint in the groovy rock arrangement. What doesn’t work quite as well is the rendition by singer-lyricist Vir Das. Composer no. 3 Shivi R Kashyap’s only song for the soundtrack is a pop track called Aisi Hi Hoon Main. The song is as standard as its title indicates, and is occasionally engaging thanks mainly to the lady’s singing.
Palaash Mucchal gets the most songs among the lot, three in all. The dance track What The Fark is nothing special and doesn’t hold interest beyond a couple of listens. The composer does much better with his other two tracks though, both of which are mildly altered versions of the same melody. Parchhai features Sonu Nigam who never had problems delivering such songs to perfection, while Sargoshi has Palak Muchhal and Anirudh Bhola who are also equally impressive. Both versions have some lovely violin usage. The last track of the album is a Violin Recital from violinist-composer Karthick Iyer( that occasionally reminded me of Lindsey Stirling’s Crystallize). The man is one of my favourite among present day violinists, and he sounds fab here too. Glad to see him debut in Bollywood.
For a soundtrack with as many as five composers (six, by individual count) to be a total winner would have been something of a miracle, even while accounting for the interesting names in there. Amit Sahni Ki List has fared above average that way, there are least four songs that I will be listening to for quite some time.
