The nominees for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards have been announced, and continuing his fantastic run at music awards this year, rapper Eminem leads the pack receiving ten entries including Album Of The Year and Best Rap Album. Following him is Bruno Mars who garnered seven nominations. Jay-Z, Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga each received six nods. Jeff Beck, B.o.B, David Frost, Philip Lawrence, and John Legend five; and Alex Da Kid, the Black Keys, Drake, Cee Lo Green, Ari Levine, Katy Perry, Rihanna, the Roots, Dirk Sobotka, and Zac Brown got four nominations each. Canadian pop star Justin Bieber got just two nominations, but managed to bag the Best New Artist nomination among them. While a lot of newcomers have made their presence felt, veterans have not been far behind either, maestros like Clapton, McCartney, Plant, McLaughlin etc. receiving nominations. On the movie score front, Hans Zimmer received two nominations, one for Christopher Nolan‘s Inception and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, though I see a better chance with the former. A surprising miss was AC/DC‘s work for Ironman 2 in the Best Compilation Soundtrack category.
The big night will be Feb. 13, 2011, held at Staples Center in Los Angeles. You can see the complete Grammy nominees list here.
