Party on my mind is standard Pritam dance floor stuff which KK, Shefali Alvares and Yo Yo Honey Singh have little difficulty rendering. Must work in discos, otherwise it is just passable fare. Why such already remix-y songs must have a remix version I will never understand. On an aside, get a strong feeling that Shefali is being wasted in the industry. Would have loved to hear her sing the kind of songs Suman Shridhar gets. Coming back to the soundtrack, about Lat Lag Gayee too I could say pretty much the same things I said about Party.., except that this has a slightly better base tune that Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade deliver neatly. And glad that this one doesn’t have a remix.
Pritam gets Atif Aslam, Vishal Dadlani, Anushka Manchanda, Ritu Pathak and Richie One to build on the title hook of Race, as Allah Duhai Hai. Some nifty additions this time, like the violin on that lead refrain, make this an improvement over the original. Best among the lot is Be Intehaan, though it is more due to the mediocrity of other songs – this one also has a standard Pritam feel about it. What makes it work is the singing by Atif Aslam and Sunidhi Chauhan. The unplugged version with Rahul Vaidya doesn’t impress as much. And finally the Zero Hour Mashup man Kiran Kamath’s Race 2 Mashup. Neat mix of tunes again, but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
One sequel-indicative tune and three Pritam-indicative tunes. Race 2.
