If you don’t get cheesed off by the opening “Tweenkal Tweenkal” bit and press the “Next” button, the title song will reveal itself to be a rather engaging affair helped a lot by Puneet Sharma’s well-phrased lyrics. Composer Krsna’s melody is simple and hummable, delivered well by Payal Dev and Arghya Bannerjee. Krsna’s arrangement is the star of the pacy Da Di Da Da, highlighted by Ajay Sharma’s sitar. Composer himself gets behind the mic and does a commendable job, ably assisted by Kavita Baliga. Krsna’s tastefully done nod to Pancham Shaam Hote Hi sees Shreya Ghoshal at her exuberant best (wonder if she is the one doing the conversations too). The arrangements understandably remind of multiple RD Burman tracks (some good work from guitarist Anup Phukan).
After having delivered a brilliant qawwali in their debut soundtrack (Tanu Weds Manu), Krsna and lyricist Raj Shekhar produce one more delightful track based on the genre in Shehar Mehboob Hai Ji. On vocals is Javed Ali, a dab hand at the genre, with some excellent backing from the composer. The employment of harmonium (Firoz Shah) and tabla (Sanjiv Sen) is expected, but the composer shows some real creativity with the latter especially around the mukhda. Tapas Roy’s presence (rabab perhaps?) is the icing on the cake. Krsna’s duet with Shreya Ghoshal called Rafa Dafa too is high on energy but this time he brings out the wacky side of Shreya’s singing and she rules that one too! The soundtrack’s best song comes in two versions. The happier sounding variant of Single Chal Riya Hai has Mohit Chauhan rendering Raj Shekhar’s excellently written verse, while the composer adorns the backdrop with an extremely charming light-hearted orchestration (led by Pawan Rasaily on guitar). Krsna himself does a soulful, pained delivery of the slower Reprise that seems to go better with the import of the lyrics.
Cute Kameena. Composer Krsna and lyricist Raj Shekhar deliver yet again (with some help from Puneet Sharma too)! A highly imaginative and entertaining soundtrack, much more than what can be said about the movie’s title. Really hope the makers haven’t wasted the songs.
