Songs and musician credits at the end.

While he does an original piece for Mission Mangal, Tanishk Bagchi – one common name across the composer list of both soundtracks (in fact a common name across a lot many albums these days) – is back to his regular business with a remix for Batla House. Vishal Shekhar and Dev Kohli’s 2004 hit O Saki Saki, in this case. Barring the saaki saaki verse from the original, Bagchi supplies his own lines and melody for the rest of the song. The end result falls flat in comparison to the original though, and even the singing – Neha Kakkar, Tulsi Kumar, B Praak here – doesn’t quite compare with Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan’s effort. The album’s second song sees a second composer, Ankit Tiwari. And Rula Diya is one of the better compositions I have heard from the man in a long time. The melody has a familiar feel, but is nice, and the arrangement is quite nicely done too – liked the employment of Yogesh More’s shehnai in particular. The composer himself handles the vocals, alongside Dhvani Bhanushali. Rochak Kohli makes his entry with the third song, the inspirational Jaako Raakhe Saaiyaan – while the title derives from Kabir’s doha, most of the song is penned by Gautam Sharma and Gurpreet Saini. Quite effective, this piece, though yet again there is that undertone of the composer’s own Meer-e-Karwaan in the percussion use etc. It is incredible that we do not hear more of Navraj Hans in the industry – the man sounds fabulous here, just as he has in every song of his I have heard to date.
Surprisingly, there isn’t a single song in either Mission Mangal or Batla House that can be classified as “patriotic” – though both feature an inspirational song apiece. Not that I am complaining of course, but what does disappoint is the lack of a truly outstanding track in either album. Passable fare, this one as well.
